Interested in a medical career with a difference? Then a career in holistic medicine may be what you are looking for.

Holistic medicine encourages a medical issue to be looked at from all different angles. Instead of just taking the illness into account, holistic medicine takes into account all other aspects of the person as well. These aspects include:

  • physical aspects
  • nutrition
  • emotional
  • environmental
  • social
  • spiritual and other lifestyle influences

Holistic medicine holds the belief that an illness has more than one cause, and therefore all causes should be looked, assessed and treated appropriately. The term ‘mind, body, and soul’ is a great way to describe the holistic approach.

Holistic medicine is commonly grouped under the umbrella term ‘alternative medicine’. It is also referred to as ‘new age’ medicine. This gives people the impression that there is a spiritual practice base for it. Although holistic medicine does address spiritual beliefs and issues in its practice, there is no one religion or spiritual belief that forms a base for the practice.

What was once a practice which was shunned by mainstream doctors, holistic medicine is slowly becoming a more accepted part of medical culture. In fact, there a many physicians and general practitioners today who welcome the integration of alternative therapies with mainstream medicine.

Holistic medicine provides alternative ways to treat illnesses, of the physical, emotional and mental kind for those who do not wish to utilize the offerings of mainstream medicine. If this sounds like something you would want to offer a client, then a career in holistic medicine could be right up your alley.
